The True Scriptural Meaning of Immersion (Baptism) Should We Be Immersed, or Does a Shower Suffice?

Many believers today are rediscovering the sacred act of immersion, often called baptism.
But as we study the Scriptures more deeply, questions arise:

  • Should we be immersed in the Name of the Father, Son, and Ruach Ha’Qodesh, or in the Name of YAHAWASHI only?

  • Can a shower or pouring of water be enough?

  • Must immersion be done by another person, or can we immerse ourselves?

Let’s explore what the Scriptures and the ancient understanding reveal.

The Command of YAHAWASHI

“Go therefore, and teach all nations, immersing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Ruach Ha’Qodesh.”
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 28:19

At first glance, this may appear to be three names — but YAHAWASHI said “in the Name” (singular), not names.

In Hebrew thought, a name (Shem) represents authority and power, not just a title.
Thus, He revealed the one Name that carries the authority of the Father, the Son, and the Ruach — and that Name is YAHAWASHI, meaning “YAHAWAH is Salvation.”

The Apostolic Example

When we look at how the apostles obeyed this command, every recorded immersion in Scripture was done in the Name of YAHAWASHI:

  • Acts 2:38 — “Repent and be immersed every one of you in the Name of YAHAWASHI HA’MASHYACH…”

  • Acts 8:16 — “…they were immersed in the Name of YAHAWASHI.”

  • Acts 10:48 — “…he commanded them to be immersed in the Name of YAHAWASHI.”

  • Acts 19:5 — “…they were immersed in the Name of the Master YAHAWASHI HA’MASHYACH.”

If the disciples misunderstood the Messiah’s words, the Ruach would not have descended upon those immersions — but it did.
This confirms that they understood His command correctly.

Immersion Means Full Submersion

The word baptize in Greek is baptízō, and in Hebrew tabal (טָבַל) — both mean to dip or submerge fully.

A shower or sprinkling does not represent burial and resurrection.
Immersion symbolizes dying to the old man and rising to new life in YAHAWASHI (Romans 6:3–4).

That’s why the early believers used living water — rivers, lakes, or springs — representing the flowing life that comes from YAHAWAH Himself.
YAHAWASHI was immersed in the Jordan River, not sprinkled or washed.

🕊️ 4. What If I Don’t Have a River Nearby?

If there is no access to natural living water, YAHAWAH looks at the heart more than the location (1 Shemu’al 16:7).
But if possible, find any body of water deep enough to be fully submerged — even a bathtub can serve if your intention and faith are sincere.

A shower, however, represents washing, not burial.
Immersion means being covered and raised again — this is the act YAHAWASHI and the apostles performed.

Does Someone Need to Immerse Me?

In Scripture, immersions were often performed by another believer as a witness:

  • Yahuchanan (John) immersed YAHAWASHI (Matt. 3:13–16)

  • Philip immersed the Ethiopian (Acts 8:38)

  • Paul immersed disciples in Ephesus (Acts 19:5)

Having a witness shows the covenant being made publicly before YAHAWAH and others.

However, self-immersion is also Scripturally valid.
In the ancient mikveh (Hebrew purification immersions), individuals often immersed themselves while witnesses observed.
The key is repentance, faith, and confession in YAHAWASHI’s Name.

If you are alone and your heart is sincere before YAHAWAH, you may immerse yourself — declaring with your mouth that you are being immersed in the Name of YAHAWASHI HA’MASHYACH, for the cleansing of sin and renewal by the Ruach Ha’Qodesh.

Step-by-Step: Immersion in the Name of YAHAWASHI

  1. Find living water if possible — a river, lake, or sea.

  2. Pray before entering:

“AHBAH YAHAWAH, I come before You in the Name of YAHAWASHI HA’MASHYACH, to be cleansed and renewed. Wash me from all unrighteousness.”

  3. Confess your faith aloud:

“I am being immersed in the Name of YAHAWASHI HA’MASHYACH, for the remission of sins and renewal by the Ruach Ha’Qodesh.”

  4. Fully submerge yourself, symbolizing death to the old life.

  5. Rise up, declaring:

“Through YAHAWASHI, I am made new. The old has passed away, and I walk now in righteousness and truth. Halalwa-YAH!”

Closing Reflection

Immersion is not just a ritual — it’s a covenant declaration.
It is the moment we die to sin and rise to walk in newness of life, united with the Name that holds all power — the Name of YAHAWASHI, in whom the fullness of YAHAWAH and the Ruach Ha’Qodesh dwell.

Let every immersion be done with sincerity, repentance, and thanksgiving, for this is the way the first followers of the Messiah walked.

“For as many of you as have been immersed into YAHAWASHI have put on YAHAWASHI.”

Galatians 3:27

Halalwa-YAH!
